Restaurant Suggestions for Torino and Olympic ski resorts
If you have the fortune to be one of the few people that is viewing the Winter Olympics in Italy, here are some restaurant suggestions for your stay:
Bardonecchia, Ristorante Smith
The restaurant entrance goes through the not-so-charming bar, but you'll notice the dining room for its stylish decor, high ceilings and elegant table setting. Food and wine are excellent.
Claviere, 'L Gran Bouc
Restaurant-pizzeria with two main rooms, a rustic one and a second one with stylish antique decor. Serves both national as well as Piedmontese dishes. Very friendly staff.
Sestriere, La Gargote
This restaurant is located just a couple of minutes away from the slopes in Sestriere. The atmosphere is rustic. Rather expensive but definitely worth it.

This is in response to the ridiculous comments made by Dolores Ribakoff. A group of us have taken our mothers to Whistler on Mothers Day for two years consecutively now and the highlight of the weekend are the Sno-Limo tours. Our mom's absolutely love it! The staff is great, very professional and they really go out of their way to ensure an amazing tour every year. I have met the people that own it as they are really good guys. In fact, as busy as they are as it's a still a relatively small company, they come out to personally meet our moms and just make it such a great experience for everyone. Other than this bitter person from Los Angeles who is obviously just one of those people that should do everyone a favor and stay home, I have never heard a bad comment about this service and would highly recommend it to anyone that doesn't ski. We love our moms and would never put them in harms way and the Sno-Limo is as safe as it gets. We are going back next year with even more people as this has quickly become a great Mothers Day tradition.

Great culinary advice! I was just looking up ski resorts in Italy, so this post is a real bonus for me.

At Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler British Columbia I signed up for a ride on a Sno-limo. This was 1/18/2008. This contraption is meant for the person who cannot ski. It is sort of a seat attached to two skis and a sno-limo driver skies the seated person down the mountain.
It is intended for use by elderly people. I am 65 so I fully qualify.
We were about 60 seconds into the ride when the driver lost control and we were headed down the hill backward out-of-control. The Sno-limo tipped over leaving me underneath. I sustained soft-tissue injuries to my low back, neck, jaw, wrists, knees hips and ribs.
Because I am not a Canadian, I had to pay for all my medical expenses with either cash or a credit card. They do not bill insurance.
I was in so much agony that I could not get out of bed unassisted. Nor could I dress myself or use the wash room. The plane ride home was a painful journey.
I tried many times to reach the owner, but he was unavailable to speak to me for the duration of my trip. This accident happened the first day of the trip, so our entire trip was ruined.
Not only did he refuse to speak to me, but he said unkind and untrue things about me. The staff refused to help me with medical expenses, they refused to apologize for the accident, and they offered me no help whatsoever.
Today is 2/3/08. They have contacted me two days ago to apologize and to ask me not to write about my experience on the Internet. I asked for written apologies and a refund of my medical and travel expenses amounting to $2000. USD, not exactly a fortune. They have not responded to my request which was several days ago.
It is my opinion that this device is unsafe at any speed, not ready for prime time, and that the owners are insensitive to customers who are injured. This was my experience with them. If I were you, I'd go see the Eagles down in Squamish, or go visit the Shannon Falls, or take a nice stroll through the Winter Wonderland of Whistler. But please stay off the Sno-limo. I think it's dangerous.
